KORINA – Coordination center invasive neophytes in Saxony-Anhalt
Project duration: 06/2010 – 09/2011
Funded by: European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development - Saxony-Anhalt 2007-2013
In nature conservation, plant species that are foreign to an area and have undesired impacts on other species, biocoenoses or biotopes are called “invasive neophytes.”
The overarching goal of the project is to develop and implement an early-warning system as well as to design measures to combat invasive neophytes in Saxony-Anhalt (Action Program Invasive Neophytes). This includes the following aspects:
- Prevention
- Early recognition, early warning and rapid response by means of a suitable information system (including prevention of proliferation)
- Effective monitoring, control and long-term containment
- Renaturation of ecosystems impacted by invasive species
In sub-project 1, an early-warning system for invasive neophytes is to be conceived and tested using several areas protected by the Habitats Directive in Saxony-Anhalt as examples. Another task is to create the foundations required for bringing together information about incidences of invasive neophytes and carrying out evaluations.
