Citizens’ conference “Nanotechnologies and environmental protection”

Project duration: 07/2011 - 06/2012

Funded by: BMBF

A citizens’ conference titled “Nanotechnologies and environmental protection – Opportunities and risks” will take place in the context of the project “Acquisition, evaluation and public-oriented presentation of society-relevant data and findings relating to nanomaterials – DaNa.” The citizens’ conference enables a group of citizens to form an informed opinion on the opportunities and risks of using nanotechnological processes for environmental applications. The goal of the DaNa project is to collect and summarize scientific findings from ongoing and future research projects on the risks of nanotechnology (NanoCare, NanoNature) that are supported by public funding, and to present them in a straightforward way.

The project consortium includes the UfU, DECHEMA e.V. – Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V. (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS Dresden as well as EMPA – Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research.
