Dialog forum: RevierUPGRADE: We. Now. Sustainable.

The Independent Institute for Environmental Issues (UfU) e.V. and BUNDjugend invite you to a dialog forum in Leipzig on March 24 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event is part of the RevierUpgrade project.

The event is aimed at stakeholders and multipliers in the Central German and Lusatian coalfields who, together with young people (aged approx. 14-27), are committed to social and ecological aspects of structural change processes and sustainable urban and regional development. These can be actors from the fields of youth participation, environmental education & ESD as well as members of self-organized groups (e.g. FFF local groups; local sustainability initiatives) and other interested actors.

The aim of the event is to work together on relevant topics and to establish and strengthen new collaborations in order to practically promote awareness-raising, engagement and empowerment locally. With a view to the current “participation landscape”, the aim is to build on the status quo and current needs for action: There are many elaborated proposals on how sustainable, youth-oriented structural change can look in the regions. However, there is a need to catch up in terms of concrete implementation, needs-oriented support for those already involved and bringing environmental, climate and justice issues to young people who are more distant from these topics.

The young generation in the Central German and Lusatian coal mining regions are not only confronted with structural change processes as a result of the coal phase-out, but also with multiple (global) crises and personal challenges. This situation creates a gap that needs to be filled. The aim is to open up spaces for young people to shape the future and work together on sustainable solutions – whether on a small or large scale. How can self-efficacy be activated in order to reshape cities and regions “green and fair” – for a future worth living?

The all-day, free dialog forum will take place on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Mediencampus Villa Ida, Poetenweg 28, 04155 Leipzig. The event is organized by the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues (UfU) e.V., the BUNDjugend Bundesverband and the BUNDjugend Brandenburg and is funded by the BMUV (as part of the funding programme Kommunale Modellvorhaben zur Umsetzung der ökologischen Nachhaltigkeitsziele in Strukturwandelregionen (KoMoNa)).
