Why support the UfU?

UfU is a non-profit environmental institute based in Berlin. The main focus of our work is the promotion of democracy and education.

By promoting democracy, we mean our commitment to strong participation rights for citizens, free access to environmental information for all and strong environmental law.

Our commitment to education for sustainable development (ESD) is characterized by the fact that we carry out projects on topics such as energy, climate change, urban greening, energy saving and climate neutrality at numerous schools, daycare centres and other educational institutions in Germany and Europe. After all, change in society can only happen if we involve young people and show them that they can make a difference.

  • You help us to conduct independent research! We cannot find funding for some of our projects because they are not in the program of the major funding pots. It is precisely these projects that need your support. Just because something is not funded by large programs does not mean it is insignificant.
  • We stand up for the participation of all people and protect your rights to participation accordingly. These rights to have a say are constantly under threat. Even if you have no need to participate in public processes such as infrastructure, it is good to know that you can theoretically exercise this right at any time.
  • As a donor or member, you support charitable work for a fairer and more environmentally friendly future.
  • You help us to shape the education of children and young people in environmental issues, energy saving and climate change.
  • UfU provides training and employs many students as well as research assistants. With your support, young people can find employment in a sustainable and scientific environment.
  • If you decide to become a member, you can have a significant say in the work of the association at the general meeting.
  • Of course, members and regular donors receive our publications free of charge.

Your donations go towards these and other projects:

Saving energy in schools

With our energy-saving projects, pupils are already saving over 1,900 tons of CO2 per year at their schools. Through exciting active lessons, their own measurements and energy tours, children learn that their own actions make a difference. The projects are now increasingly focusing on climate neutrality.

Climate protection in Vietnam

We have been working closely with our local partners in Vietnam for over 20 years. By promoting green infrastructure in the city of Hue and the cultivation of energy crops for the production of bioethanol, we are making a contribution to climate protection.

FAQs

Can I deduct my donation from tax?

Donations of up to 200.00 euros are tax-deductible upon presentation of the bank statement to the tax office; for larger amounts, we will be happy to issue you with a donation receipt. Please send us your contact details to info@ufu.de.

How do I get my donation receipt?

We automatically send out all receipts in the first quarter of the following year – even for donations under € 200. To do this, simply select at the top of the form that you would like a donation receipt and enter your postal address. Alternatively, you can simply send us your postal address to info@ufu.de.

Will my donation be published?

No. We only publish payments that account for more than 10% of our annual revenue. You can find out more about this on our Transparency page.

Are you a non-profit organization?

UfU is a registered non-profit organization. We are officially recognized as a non-profit organization in the areas of promoting science and research, promoting education and vocational training and promoting environmental protection, including climate protection. This means that we are subject to special accounting rules. For example, we are exempt from corporation tax. We are not allowed to make any profits and we have to think carefully about who we work for and how. This also makes it clear that your donations go directly to the association and the projects.

What happens to my donation?

We have already described above what we urgently need money for. Be it the continuation of projects that are no longer funded, the payment of cost-intensive research for a new project or simply the purchase of a new laptop for employees.

Can I also donate to a specific project?

Is one of our projects particularly close to your heart? Then you can also donate to your favorite project. Simply get in touch with us at info@ufu.de. We do not have this option in the online form, as otherwise we would have to update all our projects in the form on a regular basis.
