Public participation in grid expansion in Schleiz, Thuringia
At the time of the event, the construction of new power lines was being discussed intensively in Thuringia. This applied in particular to the plans for an “electricity highway” along the A 9 from Saxony-Anhalt to Bavaria, which would affect the Saale-Orla district. The aim of the event was to provide well-founded information and organize a factual exchange of views on the project to build the South-East Direct Current Passage, referred to as “Corridor D” in the grid development plan. In addition to providing information on planning and technical issues, people in the region were to be given the opportunity to contribute their fears, comments and alternative ideas on the regional corridor route to the planning process. UfU designed and moderated the public event in the run-up to the electricity grid restructuring in Eastern Thuringia. Six UfU employees moderated the discussion at themed tables and the event as a whole. The event was attended by 160 citizens.
