Event description

Focus of the current event: 25 years of the Aarhus Convention; status quo of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan; acceleration legislation and further development of digital public participation

The upcoming “Participation Forum Association Network on Legal Environmental Issues” will focus on the 25th anniversary of the Aarhus Convention, the current status of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, acceleration legislation and the further development of digital public participation. This exciting event will take place on Friday, June 30, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be offered both on site in Berlin and digitally.

Highlights of the event are:

  • An exclusive interview with Prof. Thomas Schumerus, the only German member of the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee (ACCC), which provides an in-depth insight into the history and current developments of the Aarhus Convention.
  • An in-depth look at the acceleration legislation, divided into two parts: Dr. Cornelia Nicklas from Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (DUH) will share her experiences from the legislative process of the EU emergency regulation and Tom Witschas from the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues (UfU e.V.) will talk about standardization and practical problems in the area of conflict between species protection and the energy transition.
  • Current developments in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan will be presented by Emmanuel Schlichter (Green Legal Impact e.V.).
  • The further development of digital public participation will be highlighted in a presentation by Maike Reichert (UfU e.V.).
  • An update on legal protection will be presented by Franziska Johanna Albrecht (Green Legal Impact e.V.).

The event is aimed at full-time and voluntary representatives of recognized environmental and nature conservation associations. Interested parties can register until June 27, 2023. Participation is free of charge, but travel and accommodation costs cannot be covered.

The organizers, the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues and Green Legal Impact, store and process the data of the registrants for organizational purposes and possible invitations to future events. An objection to this use is possible at any time.
