The climate protection school atlas - doing good and making it visible
The Climate Protection Schools Atlas (KSSA) was funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety as part of the National Climate Initiative (NKI) until December 2017; unfortunately, there is currently (May 2018) no funding for further support and maintenance of the KSSA. On the occasion of the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on May 25, 2018, we have taken the Climate Protection School Atlas offline with great regret, also to avoid legal complications.

A growing number of schools and educational institutions are committed to the environment: the CO2-emissions are balanced, solar systems are installed on school roofs and used as a starting point for thinking about sustainable living, climate protection project days are held, etc. These activities contribute in many ways to reducing CO2-emissions and promote climate awareness. Since 2008, UfU e.V. has managed the Climate Protection School Atlas on behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment. It is the central platform for all educational institutions that are involved in the field of climate protection, participate or have participated in projects of the NKI (National Climate Initiative of the BMUB). Whether daycare centers, schools or extracurricular places of learning – they can all be found using a map and search function and various filter options and are presented on their own profile pages. From experimenting with sun and wind in kindergartens to waste detectives in elementary school, veggie days in school canteens, energy fasting in vocational training or mobile learning on climate routes: There are no limits to diversity and creativity when it comes to contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and taking steps towards a future fit for grandchildren. At the end of December 2015, the “KSSA” was given a new, attractive look and equipped with modern functions so that it can now also be used on smartphones and tablets. In addition to the profile pages of more than 3400 educational institutions, which present the entire colourful spectrum of climate protection activities and motivate people to follow suit, the menu item “Materials & Ideas” offers a constantly growing pool of information and inspiration for implementing your own educational projects in the areas of renewable energies, energy saving, resource and climate protection. Under “News” you will not only find the latest news from the work of the NKI education projects, but also information on competitions, funding opportunities, research results, studies and events.
