European symposium: Climate protection through energy efficiency

On On February 13 and 14, 2014, the BMUB-sponsored European symposium “Climate protection through energy efficiency” took place in Berlin. The first day of the conference was used for an excursion to the Hein-Möller School (OSZ Energietechnik) in Berlin-Lichtenberg. This school has already been partially renovated and equipped with several solar systems. The principal, Mr. Kramer, and a representative of the Berlin real estate management, Mr. Neuse, reported on their experiences with the renovation measures and the renovated building. Around 30 guests were already present on this first afternoon of the event. On the next day, the actual conference day, the almost 65 participants waited eagerly from 9:00 a.m. for the announced presentations. After a keynote speech by Dr. Susann Schwarze from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, the conference continued with presentations and practical examples from representatives of various institutions from Germany and other European countries. Various examples of structural and user-related energy-saving measures were presented to the interested specialist audience. Finally, five workshops discussed the question of which prerequisites and framework conditions are necessary to ensure that technology and user behavior together can lead to even better savings in the future. The results of the discussions were then presented in the plenary session. For further information, we recommend reading the conference proceedings.
