HyTrust - On the way to the hydrogen society
Climate change and resource scarcity show: We need to significantly expand wind and solar energy. Because the supply from these energy sources fluctuates greatly in terms of time and space, we also need good energy storage options. Hydrogen is a good option for this. Hydrogen will play a major role as a fuel in the coming years, particularly in transportation. HyTrust is investigating the social impact of the introduction of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in the mobility sector. This switch from fossil fuels to renewable fuels will be felt in people’s everyday lives. It is therefore all the more important that this topic is not reserved for the “experts”, but that the entire public is involved. Even more importantly, it should be ensured from the outset that the changeover is accepted by all those involved – manufacturers, suppliers and consumers. Trust plays a decisive role in this context. The results of the studies to date show that there is no acceptance problem for hydrogen mobility among the population, but there is also hardly any awareness of the issue. In particular, there are no safety concerns about hydrogen and hydrogen vehicles among the population. For hydrogen cars to be accepted by private buyers, the hydrogen produced for them must be green from the outset in order to make a major contribution to reducingCO2 emissions in the transport sector.
