Climate education programs on the topics of energy, mobility, water, waste and resources for Infralab Berlin

Berlin’s major infrastructure companies such as Berliner Stadtreinigung, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, Berliner Wasserbetriebe, GASAG, Stromnetz Berlin and Vattenfall Wärme Berlin have come together under the umbrella of InfraLab Berlin to meet the challenges of an increasingly interconnected urban infrastructure. Infralab publishes teaching materials for climate education in schools under the title “KlimaMacher”.

The“KlimaMacher” project website provides method instructions for an entire project week, individual project days or lessons on the topics of energy, mobility, waste and resources as well as water supply and disposal. In addition to project and lesson suggestions, this also includes handouts, worksheets and films. The special thing about this is that the pupils of a school first work together on the topic of infrastructure supply in the city in times of climate change and then turn to the individual subject areas in parallel working groups. In addition to the content-related development of the subject areas, various excursion options are presented. The implementation of a future workshop enables the explicit participation of pupils in the development of solution ideas for suitable climate protection and climate adaptation measures at their school and in their extracurricular environment. At the end of the project week, the pupils compile their results in a “Gallery Walk” or a “Market of Opportunities”.

UfU supported InfraLab in the creation, didactization and testing of the material.

The teaching materials are now freely available online for all interested parties.
